Lip Filler Treatment

Dr McCoubrey is a doctor who has vast injection experience in lip filler injections. The procedure is known as 'lip augmentation'. Our Doctor follows the 'Less is more' approach when it comes to lip filler treatments and always aims to achieve natural results.

Lips can be injected superficially into the lip line contour for better definition and also volumised interiorly into the red lip. Assessment of the perioral area as a whole is undertaken to strive to achieve a natural result. This is a dynamic region, so precise product choice is decided based on factors such as your desired results, your lip physiology, and your age, among other considerations. Injector technique is also a key factor in achieving excellent results.

What are lip fillers?

Lip fillers are an increasingly popular treatment with a long safety and effectiveness history. Lip fillers contain the same ingredient, - Hyaluronic acid (HA), as is used in the best dermal fillers. HA is a bio-compatible substance that is found naturally in the body. There are many dermal fillers on the market, and the quality of both the product itself, and also the quality of the injector will vary dramatically. HA fillers are preferred due to their excellent safety record and their dissolvability property. Lip filler patients may benefit from smoother, finer wrinkles on the lips.

CHOOSING A LIP FILLER PRACTITIONER

Having lip fillers may seem to some to be a simple treatment, but filling lips is a much more advanced procedure than patients realise. It is much more than a case of just adding volume to thin lips. You must be diligent by choosing a medically qualified practitioner who only offers high-quality filler products.
Hyaluronic acid lip fillers are preferred due to their excellent safety record and their dissolvability property. Some dermal fillers work better in different areas of the skin and face and it is the skill of the doctor to be able to determine the best filler for the patient in front of them.

5 REASONS PATIENTS GIVE FOR HAVING A LIP FILLER

Horizontal symmetry:  Patients seek lip fillers when they perceive an imbalance between their upper and lower lips. If the top lip appears noticeably thinner or smaller compared to the lower lip, or vice versa, lip fillers can be strategically used to create a harmonious balance. This involves carefully adding volume to either the upper or lower lip to achieve a more symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Enhancing Overall Lip Size: Many patients feel that their lips do not proportionately align with their other facial features, often appearing too small or lacking definition or not fitting in with their face's natural lines and contours. In such cases, lip fillers can enhance both lips, ensuring they complement the natural lines and contours of the face. This improves the size and brings a more balanced and attractive look to the entire face.

Correcting Lip Asymmetry on the vertical line: For one reason or another, there is a variation in the size and shape of the lips on either side of the face. This is another often-cited concern. This lip variation might be due to natural factors or previous procedures. Lip fillers offer a precise solution to correct such asymmetries, ensuring both sides of the lips are evenly matched and aligned, enhancing the overall facial harmony.

Restoring Youthful Volume: With age, lips naturally lose their volume and definition. Patients seek lip fillers as a way to reclaim the fuller, more youthful appearance of their lips. By carefully adding volume, this treatment can effectively counteract the signs of ageing, restoring the lips to their former plumpness and reducing the appearance of fine lines around the mouth.

Rebalancing After Other Treatments: The patient has had other treatments, such as a non-surgical rhinoplasty, which has thrown the lips off balance with the rest of their facial features.  Following certain facial treatments, the aesthetic balance of the face can shift, sometimes making the lips appear less prominent or misaligned with your new facial aesthetic.
Lip fillers can be used to subtly adjust the lips' volume and shape, ensuring they harmoniously align with the enhanced facial features, creating the desired balanced and natural look.

Treatment Plan

Together, we will co-create a personalised treatment plan that aligns with your comfort level and aesthetic aspirations.

The lip filler treatment

During the initial treatment, numbing options are discussed, and the practitioner injects the dermal filler in small amounts at various points in the lips to add volume. The process of lip injections is done cautiosly and slowly to achieve a natural look. The injection points are carefully calculated to facilitate perfect contouring and natural results.

The procedure will be performed in one treatment, but depending on the size of your lips before the treatment, you may opt to have smaller amounts of filler and come back for a top-up later on.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does having a lip filler hurt?
Not really. A lip filler practitioner will always offer numbing cream and certain filler products contain a small amount of lidocaine. If you are concerned at all please do mention you concerns during the appointment.

I have seen pictures of dramatically bad lips. Why is this?
We have seen these pictures too. They are nearly always down to one or more reasons from this list: Poor technique, overfilling, poor hygiene methods, or substandard filler product. Allergic reactions do occur but due to the fact that hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the body these are very rare.

Is there any downtime associated with lip fillers?
As with every dermal filler treatment, there is a risk of bruising and swelling. This will tend to subside shortly after when the treated area calms. If you are prone to bruising please mention it as there are extra steps to take to minimise this. You will be given advice such as not touching the mouth area afterwards, which medication not to take, and how to get the maximum from your dermal filler treatment.
If you have any question at all regarding your appearance and how to enhance it, any non-surgical treatments we perform, please feel free to get in touch.
